Performing Daily Backups

General Information

Warning: If your computer ever has a problem and you don't have a backup, you will lose everything you have entered into it.  If you create backups and you keep them in a safe place, you will never lose your data!

The software provides a back up program that is run by clicking on the Backup icon that is on your desktop.  This icon was installed on your desktop during the initial installation of the software system.  Completing a backup is as easy as inserting a diskette, clicking on the icon, and the software directs you through the steps.  The backup program condenses all of your data so it takes up the least amount of space, and moves all your data into one file (called 1.bkp).  This file can be placed wherever you want.  It normally will go to your computer's floppy disk drive, but you can change this so that it can go somewhere else (for example, to a zip drive instead).

Warning: To backup to a CD, please click on the appropriate button below.  Clicking on the Backup Frazer Files icon will not create a CD backup!

It is important to back up the information in your computer every day. Doing a daily backup will copy all of your data files from your computer onto a diskette.  You should use a different diskette for each day of the week.  Label one diskette MONDAY and use it to backup every Monday.  Label another diskette TUESDAY and use it every Tuesday, and so on. This method ensures that you always have recent data in the event that one of the back up diskettes does not work.  Start off using a new set of blank diskettes, and then replace these diskettes once a year or so.

Helpful Hints

This backup program will first remind you to make sure that nobody is using the Frazer System. You will not get a good backup if somebody is running the program. You should be sure that the program is not "minimized" on anybody's computer - including your own.  To do this check for the words "Frazer Software" on the task bar at the bottom of the main computer screen.

If your data is too large to fit on one diskette, the program will fill the first diskette and prompt you to put a second diskette into your computer.

Step By Step Backup to CD in Windows XP

Warning: You must back up to a CD-R or CD-RW when using this method.  You will not get a proper backup if you use DVD's, even if your computer is capable of burning DVD's.
