Original and Current Cash Position

Prior to completing the sale, the original cash position is available at a quick glance in the Sale Recap report from the Costs Tab in Sales Processing. (Sales > 1 - Enter Sales)

You can view your cash position for a particular sale or for a range of dates.  If you want to view your cash position for a particular sale, go to Customer Activity, select the customer, and then click on B - Customer Processing, and then M - Cash Position (Figure 1). This page displays your original cash position on the sale, along with the breakdown for how this was computed.  It also gives the total payments received, and adds this to the original cash position to give your current cash position for that sale.

Original Cash Position

For each sale, you are given both your original cash position, and your current cash position.  Your original cash position is how much money you have made (or lost) at the time of the sale (it does NOT include any payments that will be made at a future date).  By default, it is calculated as:

Original Cash Position = Cash Down - Total Cost of the Car - Tag & Title Fees - Cost of "back end" sales - Sales Tax.

By viewing M Cash Position (above) you can view exactly how your original cash position is being calculated.  You can change how the original cash down is calculated by clicking on Miscellaneous at the top of the screen, then going to 1 - System Options, then tab 7 - Other.  By checking the boxes in the box titled Original Cash Position, you can customize how your original cash position is calculated.  For a detailed description of your options for customizing how the original cash position is calculated, go to Original Cash Position.

Current Cash Position

Your current cash position is your original cash position, plus any payments you have received to date. If all payments have been received, the current cash position will equal the profit for that vehicle.  If you are still waiting for payments, the current cash position will be the profit minus the amount you are still expecting to receive.

You can also view your original and current cash position, as well as the projected profit on the sale by selecting the customer through Customer Activity, and then going to K - Sale Recap Sheet (Figure 2).  This page gives a detailed breakdown of all your expenses involved in the sale (such as the original cost of the vehicle, added costs, lot fee, etc.), and all the money you will make from the sale (the vehicle price, finance charge, doc prep fee, other fees, etc.).  Your profit to date is displayed as current cash position, and your total profit from the sale (including payments you have yet to receive) is displayed as the profit.

If you want to view your cash position over a range of dates, go to Reports at the top of the screen, then 2 - Sales Reporting, then 5 - Cash Position Analysis.  This report gives you various options, such as whether to view your cash position for all sales and payments during a certain date range, or just for a certain type of sale, such as only your cash sales or buy here – pay here sales.  This report also gives you the option to show only monthly totals if you prefer, and/or to include only customers with a remaining balance.
